BARN FIRE ADDS TO BUSY DAY FOR SWEET HOME FIRE

Sweet Home Fire Dist. May 22nd was extra busy for Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District as they ran 15 calls for emergency service in a 14 hour period on one shift. The afternoon was interrupted by a structure fire on Airport Road at 4:33 PM. Crews arrived to find a barn in a field with the roof on fire and residents attempting to spray water onto the roof with a hose. The primary residence was approximately 100 feet away and in the path of a stiff downwind of the burning barn.  The first arriving unit was a command brush rig and used its onboard water to keep the flames at bay as an engine took the last water hydrant on Airport Road and layed in with a full crew to knock down the fire. Working both interior and exterior operations simultaneously, the engine company was able to extinguish the fire quickly and save as much of the contents of the barn as possible while preventing fire spread to the surrounding area. MAN ARRESTED FOR THREATS AT BOATNIK PARADE

Grants Pass Police Department On May 23, at about 0915 hours, Sean Washburn, a 59-year old male, confronted Grants Pass Police Officers at the corner of NE 6th and NE A Street. The officers were setting up barricades to secure the Boatnik Parade route.   Washburn demonstrated a strong hostility toward the parade and made other concerning statements. He then drove away in a reckless manner.   The officers securing the parade route coordinated with patrol officers to locate Washburn. His statements had caused alarm and the single most important task in the moment was to locate Washburn. Within minutes, Washburn's car was located several blocks aaay. He was then located walking toward the parade in the area of SE 4th and SE J Street. He was immediately taken into custody and Grants Pass Police Detectives responded to help with the investigation.   Washburn was lodged at the jail on charges of Reckless Driving and Disorderly Conduct.   The investigation determined there ...

Jury finds Independence man guilty of rape, sodomy

Polk Co. Dist. Att. Office   DALLAS (OR) – Kayin Alexander Carillo, 26, has been sentenced to serve 37 months (3 years, 1 month) in prison for rape and sodomy of a minor female victim in 2021.   Carillo, of Independence, was sentenced by Polk County Circuit Judge Rafael A. Caso, after a two-day jury trial concluded on May 21. The 12-person jury found Carillo guilty of Rape in the Third Degree and Sodomy in the Third Degree. Judge Caso imposed the presumptive sentences under Oregon law and for the time to be served consecutively to a prison sentence Carillo is currently serving. He will also be required to serve a two-year term of Post-Prison Supervision upon his release and register as a sex offender.   The case was investigated by the Independence Police Department and prosecuted by Polk County Deputy District Attorney Shannon Clausen.  

Clackamas County Deputy arrested on criminal charges for off-duty conduct

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office  Thursday, May 21, 2026, Benjamin Lyman was arrested by the Oregon City Police Department on two counts of Criminal Mistreatment - First Degree, two counts of Strangulation - Misdemeanor, three counts of Harassment, and one count of Interfering with Making a Report. The charges stem from a criminal investigation by the Oregon City Police Department. In April, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Oregon City Police Department that they were conducting a criminal investigation into conduct that occurred while off duty. Structure Fire on Brody Lane in Bend

Bend Fire & Rescue   At 11:30 pm on Thursday, May 21 2026, multiple 911 callers reported a structure fire near Boyd Acres Rd in NE Bend.  First arriving fire units found two residences heavily involved in fire with extension into nearby brush and trees and a second alarm was called. The fire was knocked down quickly, with fire progression stopped within 45 minutes. Assistance was received during the incident from Redmond Fire & Rescue, Cloverdale Fire, and Sunriver Fire.  Both residences were uninhabitable with one a total loss, and Red Cross assistance was requested for the residents.  Losses are estimated in excess of 1 million dollars.     The fire is under investigation at this time.     The fire did extend into adjacent brush and trees, but was quickly stopped by fire crews.  Wildfires and wildfire losses aren't just in rural areas, they can occur even within City limits.  Taking simple steps, such as clearing comb...

LAKE OSWEGO MAN CHARGED WITH SEXUALLY EXPLOITING MULTIPLE MINORS AND DISTRIBUTING CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE MATERIAL

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon   PORTLAND, Ore.—A Lake Oswego, Oregon, man has been charged with sexually exploiting minor victims online and in person across multiple states and distributing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).   Alex Miller Eldridge, 36, has been charged by criminal complaint with sexual exploitation of children and possession and distribution of child pornography.   According to court documents, since May 2025, Eldridge used multiple online accounts to sexually exploit minors in multiple U.S. states and at least one foreign country. In December 2024, Eldridge flew from Hawaii to Pennsylvania to sexually abuse a minor victim he met on the Discord application. Eldridge recorded his sexual abuse of the minor victim and later sent those videos to multiple other minor victims.   Eldridge used the Discord and Session applications to engage in sexually themed chats with additional minor victims in 2025 and 2026. COOS BAY MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO SEXUALLY EXPLOITING A MINOR AND ATTEMPTING TO SEXUALLY EXPLOIT ANOTHER MINOR

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon EUGENE, Ore.— A Coos Bay, Oregon, man pleaded guilty yesterday in federal court for causing a child to produce child sexual abuse material (CSAM), attempting to cause an adult to produce CSAM with his minor child, and distributing CSAM to others.   Thomas Owen Barnett, 40, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual exploitation of a child.    According to court documents, between September and December 2023, Barnett encouraged a minor victim to create and send him CSAM.  In September 2024, Barnett distributed CSAM of that minor victim on Kik, an online chat platform, and sought money in exchange. LANE COUNTY SHERIFF’S DETECTIVES ARREST SPRINGFIELD MAN DURING INTERNET CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN (ICAC) INVESTIGATION

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office At about 9:00am on May 19th, Lane County Sheriff’s detectives responded to a residence in the 38000 block of Camp Creek Rd, in Springfield. The suspect, 21-year-old Rowan Augustus Hockema, was contacted and arrested. Hockema was lodged at the Lane County Jail on 2 counts of Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the 1st Degree and 2 counts of Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the 2nd Degree.       The investigation began from a cyber tip received by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) given to the Lane County Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.       The Lane County Sheriff’s Office received assistance during this investigation from the Oregon Department of Justice and the Lane County District Attorney's Office.       This arrest is part of an ongoing effort by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable members of our communit...

JORDAN RAY BEYER CONVICTED IN SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE

Washington Co. District Attorney's Office HILLSBORO, Ore- On May 12, 2026, a Washington County jury found Jordan Ray Beyer, age 24, guilty of 15 counts related to his rape and sexual abuse of multiple victims. Senior Deputy District Attorney Chris Lewman prosecuted this case before Judge Erik Buchér.   The defendant is a prolific sexual offender who, over a period of several years, victimized at least five female victims. His abuse followed a similar pattern with each victim. He used physical force and threats of harm to the victims, their families, and himself to effectuate sexual abuse. He often used his firearm to threaten the victims. These assaults took place in Banks, Forest Grove, and Beaverton.   Victims contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, which prompted an investigation. Deputies arrested the defendant in March 2025. Investigators believe there could be additional victims. Anyone with information about the defendant should contact law enforcement.  ...

Wallace of Colton was indicted and arraigned on a total of 19 charges on Friday, May 8, 2026, in Clackamas County.   Wallace is being held in the Clackamas County Jail on $500,000 bail for the following charges: Attempted using a child in display of sexually explicit conduct (four counts) Attempted luring a minor (nine counts) Online sexual corruption of a child in the second degree Attempted unlawful contact with a child (two counts) Luring a minor Encouraging child sexual abuse in the second degree Failure to report as a sex offender The Oregon State Police wants to remind parents to set strict guidelines with their children and internet access, along with access to different applications.
